Hotel De La Morelie is a privately owned 15th century Manor House with many of its original features and is now open for Bed and Breakfast or Self Catering. We have five suites available which consist of a bedroom ,lounge area,bathroom with shower and bath,and seperate kitchen. The house is right in the Richard The Lionheart country and it is known that Henry IV stayed at Hotel De La Morelie

The privately owned mansion house is situated at the southen side of a small quiet square "Place du Moustier" in the oldest part of St Yrieix la Perche.
Since purchasing the house in April 2004 we have created five suites suitable for bed and breakfast and also self catering.
All the suites have there own private entrance as they all lead off the medieval stone spiral staircase.
The house is entered via double doors leading from the square into a wonderful flagstone hallway which in turn leads you to either the internal courtyard through casinated Italian archways or to another internal hallway and so to the salon and separate dining room both of which have feature fireplaces with wood burners. At the rear of the house there is a large secluded garden which can be used by all guests to sit and relax in.

The house was built in the later years of the 1400's on the foundations of a medieval chateau the massive vaulted cellars and the impressive stone spiral staircase remain. The first known owner was Antoine de Bonneval who resided here from 1470 until 1512. The next family to reside in the house was the Gentil family Jean Gentil was the Provost Marshal and so the house became the seat of Justice for the local area. The next family were Jarrige de la Morelie who lived in the house up until the revolution. Just before the battle of La Roche-L'Abeille 25 June 1569 Henri d'Albert the future Henri IV stayed in the house as guest of Jarrige de la Morelie. The house has always been one if not the most important house in St Yrieix up until the revolution. Pierre Jarrige de la Morelie together with other important people of the town made it known that they were unhappy with the revolution and so they were imprisoned in Limoges and eventually were to be transported in a slave ship, but due to poor diet and mistreatment he died on the 10th August 1794 at Rochefort.
Sometime in the 19th century the house became the property of the Blondeau family and remained in the family until April 2004

The limousin is a land of upland pastures, forestery and pure water, springing from the region itself or just a little higher in the Massif Central and streams flow into the Loire or south into the Garonne, irrigation the green fields and flowing through woodland and gorges.
The regions three departments, Creuse, Correze and Haute Vienne, are ideal destinations for those in search of peace and quiet and unspoilt scenery. If there are few large towns, the countryside is dotted with charming, authentic little villages, castles, manors Romanesque abbeys and churches. Fascinating and serene, rich yet unspoilt, the Limousin offers its own brand of quality time.

There are many chateaux to visit in the region. Lovers of history and architecture will enjoy exploring the "La Route Richard Coeur de Lion", with its outstanding examples of life as it was in the middle ages : churches towns and above all castles which are open to the public. Some have been partly rebuilt, some embellished, but their warlike purpose is still evident.
Start from the high open landscape of the limits of the Charente and the XIIIc and XVc fortress castle of Rochechouart, then south west to the Romanesque church of Salles Lavauguyon with its rich XIIc frecoes. To the south east is the chateau de Brie a former fortified stronghold with walls three metres thick. On to the historic Chateau de Marval and its XIIIc guardroom, then west of Chalus towards Montbrun, the finest example of a fortified castle in the Limousin its round towers overshadowed by its enormous Romanesque keep. Then to Chalus to the now ruin Chateau de Chalus-Chabrol (XIc-XVII), site of the Lionhearts death. East of Chalus are the ruins of the fortress of Lastours and Cars. Now head south and follow the route briefly into the Perigord as far as the Chateau of Jumilhac, built on a rocky spur. The fairytale turrets make it difficult remember that this was a castle made for war. From here go east to Saint Yrieix la Perche, for its XIVc-XVc house, a ruined tower from the hundred years war and a wonderful museum of porcelain. The route end at Pompadour, birthplace of the Limousin cow and now home to the national stud. The imposing chateau was a gift bestowed on a favourite by Louis XIV. Beneath the towers and curtain Walls is the famous racecourse.

The third largest town in the Haute Vienne. Hotel De La Morelie is situated in the middle of the town giving easy access to the many shops selling local produce including a wide variety of Porcelaine whitch the area is famous for.
Just 5 minutes away there is a beautiful lake which can be used for fishing or just relaxing on the man made beach which has facilities for children. There is also a charming restaurant with views over the lake to enjoy a evening meal in the traditional French style.
St Yrieix has many other restaurants which offer good traditional food at very good set prices.
There is a local market every other Friday which is worth a visit to purchase local wines, cheeses and other products connected with the area.
During the summer the town offers many exhibitions, local fetes, Antique fairs and many events so there is always something for every body.
Close by we have Limoges, Bergerac and Perigueux these main towns offer great shopping regular markets and plenty of Historic buildings of great interest to visit and there are many restaurants for Plate dejour or enjoyable evenings.
If you come to just relax there are many beautiful picnic areas lots of fishing lakes and good golf courses so there really is something for everyone.

This suite has a lounge/bedroom, the double bed is in a typical French bed alcove the seating area has two armchairs to relax in the room faces south.
The bathroom is modern with bath/shower, wc and hand basin. The kichen has a fridge and tea/coffee making facilities

This suite consists of a double bedroom, a lounge whith its own balcony over looking the rear garden and extensive views of the town.

This suite has a large hallway, a separate lounge over looking the rear garden. There are two double bedrooms both of which over look the church square.
The suite has a large bathroom with bath/shower, wash hand basin and a separate wc.
The kitchen is also large with a fridge and gas cooker and is fully equipped for self catering.

This suite comprises of an entrance hall, which leads into the lounge/bedroom the double bed is in a typical French alcove.
The louinge has a comfortable sofa to relax on. This overlooks the inner courtyard. Adjoining this room is a dressing area.
There is a separate Kitchen equipped with a fridge also with tea and coffee making facilities.
The bathroom is modern with a bath/shower, wc and wash basin. The suite has full gas central heating.
